Kingfisher Furniture
Custom Furniture Configurator on WooCommerce
Kingfisher Furniture builds every sofa and chair to order in Texas, with dozens of options per piece. We built a WooCommerce store where buyers configure a piece, see the price change as they go and pay a 50% deposit, and we loaded 113 products and their renderings by script.
Overview
Kingfisher Furniture sells sofas, sectionals, loveseats, chairs and ottomans that are built to order in Texas by the team behind Great Blue Heron Furniture. Buyers choose the leather or fabric, the legs, the cushions and more, and each piece is made after it is ordered.
In 2023 we built kingfisherfurniture.com, a WooCommerce store where buyers configure a piece, see the price change as they go, and place the order online. The site launched in September 2023.
The Challenge
Every piece has dozens of options, and the options change the price. A standard product page with one price and an Add to Cart button could not show that. Buyers needed to see the piece in the material they picked, understand the full cost, and know when it would be ready.
The catalog was also a data problem. Kingfisher had a large library of product renderings, one set per product, per material and per camera angle, and many of the files were named inconsistently. None of it could go into WooCommerce as it was.
The client had mockups for some pages from an earlier designer. We reworked those, including the home and product pages, and designed the screens that were missing: collection pages, cart, checkout, order confirmation, materials, process, FAQ and swatch pages, and every mobile layout. We also redrew the logo as a clean vector.
What We Built
A product page that works like a configurator
Each product page lets the buyer choose a leather or fabric, sofa depth, leg shape and stain, nail heads on the collections that have them, cushion fill and matching throw pillows. The photos switch to the chosen material, and the price panel shows the starting price, the price as configured, and a line for every upcharge. A View in Your Room button opens the 3D and AR viewer from Coohom, with a QR code on desktop and a direct link on phones.
Suite Deals and a deposit checkout
Under each product, a Suite Deals section offers the other pieces in the same collection at 10% off, in the same material. The store owners can change the discount in the WordPress admin. At checkout the buyer pays a 50% deposit and the balance when the furniture is done. The current lead time is set in the admin and shows across the site, along with an estimated completion date on every order. Shipping is a flat curbside fee, and sales tax applies only to Texas addresses.
A catalog loaded by script
We set up a SKU scheme for 113 products and 2,576 product configurations and wrote an importer that uploads the renderings and maps each one to the right product, material and angle. It fixed the common file naming errors on the way in. Our designer batch-cropped the renderings so every product sits the same way in the grid. The client can load future changes from the same CSV templates.
Swatches, payments and marketing tools
Buyers can order leather and fabric swatches as a small separate order with no deposit. The store took card payments through PayPal at launch, and we checked the setup when the client later moved to Stripe. We also connected the contact form to Mailchimp and wired up the client's Emotive texting account.
Results
- A custom furniture store live on WP Engine from September 16, 2023.
- Eight collections and 113 products, each configurable in dozens of combinations with live pricing.
- Lead time, Suite Deals discount and product data that the client manages without a developer.
- Ongoing updates after launch, including renaming three collections with redirects in December 2024.
"We partnered with Caffeine Interactive for the build-out of our new custom WooCommerce site for our brand Kingfisher Furniture. We needed a lot of custom scripts and details to integrate the features on our product pages. Caffeine was great throughout and not only had their eye on the details but offered well-thought-out suggestions that helped improve the overall functionality of the finished product. The amount of extra details we asked of them was certainly not trivial, and they were able to keep the extra costs relatively reasonable for us. We would recommend working with them on your project."
