WordPress Site Built from the Owner's Designs

Aducate Digital's owner is a designer, and she arrived with finished designs for every page and her own content. We built them as a WordPress site on Elementor Pro, with a packages table that turns into a dropdown on phones, Calendly booking, a case study template she clones and a blog she moved over herself, and launched it in about two months.

Overview

Aducate Digital is a brand and marketing studio that helps small businesses tell their story, through brand strategy, design, content and managed marketing services. Its owner is a designer, and she designed her new website herself.

We built it. She handed us finished page designs and her own content, and we turned them into a WordPress site she could keep running on her own. Work started in August 2023 and the site launched on October 4, 2023.

Aducate Digital: Overview

The Challenge

The old site ran on Squarespace. The new one had to match her designs closely, across 11 main pages, a blog, a case study library and a books list, and it had to look right on phones as well as desktops.

She also wanted to do a lot of the work herself: move her blog posts over, add case studies and keep the site current after launch. That kept time and cost down, but it meant the build had to be easy for her to edit.

What We Built

Her designs, built as she drew them

We set up WordPress with Elementor Pro on the Astra theme and turned her type, colors and button styles into a site-wide style guide first. Then we built each page from her design files: home, about, services, assessments, managed services, resources, advice, our work, books, case studies and contact, plus templates for blog posts and single case studies. Her notes and change requests went through our project manager page by page until each one matched.

Pages that do more than display text

The homepage headline cycles through keywords. Our Work has gallery sliders for brand identity and infographic samples. Managed Services compares four packages in a table; on a phone the table would not fit, so it becomes a dropdown where you pick a package and see what it includes. The contact page embeds her Calendly calendar and has a quick question form that sends the visitor a confirmation email, with reCAPTCHA added after launch to stop spam.

Content she manages herself

Books are their own content type, and the advice blog has a category sidebar, an All Articles reset and pagination. Case studies use a template with custom fields, so she clones one and fills it in. When Yoast SEO could not see text stored in those fields, we added the plugin that lets it read them. She had staging access from mid September and moved her blog posts over herself while we finished the build.

Tested before launch

We checked every page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, and on an iPhone 13, a Google Pixel 3 and a Samsung Galaxy S20, and fixed each layout issue we found. We also made sure each page has a single H1. At launch we moved DNS to Cloudflare, kept the same domain so no redirects were needed, and added Google Analytics.
